Karen Schein Obituary

Karen Lee Schein, 72, of Circleville, passed away on January 11, 2019 at Riverside Hospital.  She was born on August 1, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of the late Hubert and Elizabeth (Zalecky) Hillyard.  On March 28, 1978, she married David B. Schein, who survives.  Karen is also survived by brothers Charles (Elizabeth) Hillyard, David (Denise) Janosko; sisters Patricia (Jeff) Williams, Mary Beth (William) Allison; mother-in-law Mary Alice Schein; sisters-in-law Patty Weiland, Judy (Rob) Skidmore, Nancy (Pat) Hurley and numerous nieces and nephews.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by father-in-law, Paul Schein.  She was a graduate of Willoughby South High School, Otterbein College with a degree in Elementary Education, and Ohio State University with a Master’s degree in Education.  Karen taught first grade for 30 years at Finland Elementary School in South-Western City Schools.  She served many years on curriculum development committees and was a President of the PTA.  She was an amazing tole painter and an active member of the Heart of Ohio Tole, serving as the chairman of the state annual tole painting convention for five years.  She and her husband, Dave, traveled to many national conventions of the Society of Decorative Painters and served as chairman of their committee to develop a training manual for teaching painters how to teach painting.  She was active in the Historical and Genealogical Library of Pickaway County and helped create extensive database records.  She enjoyed many different forms of crafts, flowers, gardening, genealogical research and reading.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home with Chaplain Jim Ferrell officiating with burial to follow in Springlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. and again on Friday from 10-11 a.m.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Historical and Genealogical Library of Pickaway County, 210 North Court Street, Circleville, Ohio 43113.
