George Roof

George D. Roof, 88, was born on August 10, 1929 in Columbus Ohio to Blenn and Leona Mae (Robinson) Roof.  George formerly lived in Wellston, Ohio for many years until moving to Circleville with step-daughter Peggy and Kenneth Hannah so that they together with his wife Viola and grandchildren Kenneth and Katelyn Hannah could lovingly care for him through his long battle with Alzheimers disease until he went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2018.  George was a proud member of the United States Navy for 6 years and very proud to have worked and retired from E.I. DuPont, Circleville after 32 years’ service in 1985.  George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Blenn Eugene, Richard and Jimmy Roof and sisters Wanda Griffith and Lois McKinsey, step-son Rodney Dillie and a special niece Karen Stover.  He is survived by his loving wife Viola Roof and son George D. (Marsha) Roof , step-son Clifford (Terry) Dillie, step-daughters Peggy (Kenneth) Hannah and Sharon (Robert) Robinson, daughters Gayle Failing, Annette Cisneros, Teresa Cline, Nancy Thompson and Carla Pierson, grandchildren Joseph Cliffy and Cindy Dillie, Kenneth and Katelyn Hannah, Brian Roof, Lori Underwood, Sadie Rowland, Sonya and Robbie Robinson, Jeremy and David Thomas and Corey Failing, Joshua, Tonya, Joseph and Justin Cline, Bryce, Reed and Rowan Underwood and several other great grandchildren.  George was always happy to spend time with his family traveling, boating, swimming, camping and just loved walking the trails at the parks with his wife Viola and grandchildren on the weekends.  He has assuredly left many special memories in the hearts of those who were blessed to love him.  George was well known for his pleasant disposition and always making everyone around him smile and know that you were truly special to him.  He will be truly missed by many.  The family would like to offer a special thank you to all the wonderful caregivers from Heartland Hospice, you all were truly a blessing at a very difficult time.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at noon at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with burial to follow in Green Summit Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at noon.  Wellman Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.   Online condolences can be made to www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com.
