Mildred Leist

Mildred L. Leist, 99, of Circleville passed away on August 31, 2026 at Circleville Post Acute. Born April 20, 1927 in Chillicothe, OH to Clarence and Helen (Reeser) Hammerle. Mildred’s nickname, Doodie, was given to her by her father, who died when she was about 1 ½ years old. In addition to her father Mildred was predeceased by her mother Helen Schoonover, husband Gail Leist, her stepfather, Clarence Schoonover; sisters Betty Jane, Helen Rose, and brother Robert (Sonny) Schoonover; sons-in-law Dan Wolfe and Bill Bresler and grandson Chad Bresler. Mildred is survived by her two daughters Susie Williamson and Carolyn Bresler; nephew Robert Teal and wife Nancy. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren Shawntina (Jim) Greenlee, Tyler Wolfe, Shelisha (Dave) Brode and Bryan (Val Goeller) Bresler; great grandchildren include Daniel (Nine) Greenlee, Rachel (Dylan) Unangst, Trista (Wolfe) Wright, Leah Wolfe, Jacob (Jessica) Bresler, Morgan Bresler; great-great grandsons are Hudson and Cooper Wright, James Greenlee, Carson Bresler, Brayden Orders and Kayson Stevens. During WWII she worked at Lockbourne AF Base (now Rickenbacker) where she assembled parachutes to ensure lifesaving reliability for our paratroopers and pilots; making her eligible for National Recognition as a “Rosie the Riveter.” She and her husband Gail were married for 53 years. Most of her married life Mildred was a homemaker. She had a natural talent for interior decorating, making her home and the homes of her family especially warm and inviting. She loved the Christmas Season and spent days decorating. She was a lover of animals and nurtured several back to health including an orphaned bunny and a fallen robin. She has been a resident of Circleville Post Acute in The Memory Care Unit for the past 6 years. She was fondly known as Ms. Millie by her caregivers. Many thanks to the kindness and care of those who made her stay a bit easier. The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for their care this past month. At Mildred’s request there will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at Forest Cemetery with her nephew Robert Teal officiating. She had a special place in her heart for the Salvation Army. They ministered to her father and upon his passing, assisted her mother and children.
