Marcella Marie (Downs) Goodman, 90, entered the gates of Heaven in the earlyafternoon of Friday, June 13, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born October 11, 1934, in Hocking County to the late Marshall and Eloise Downs. On May 28, 1966, Marie married the love of her life, Charles “Bud” Goodman in Laurelville, Ohio. They were married one month shy of 39 years, when Bud passed away on May 9, 2005.Marie was a long-time member of the South Perry United Methodist Church, where she served as the janitor for many years. She participated in the South Perry UnitedMethodist Women’s Society and was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Every person she met and everyone that knew her knew of her love for Jesus. She proclaimed that love every chance she had and loved to tell the story of how shecame to know the Lord. One thing that Marie’s neighbors will remember her for is her beautiful garden and yard full of flowers. In 2006, she won the Garden from the Heart,Logan in Bloom Award, voted on by her community. She spent hours tending her flowers and vegetable garden and her love of gardening was passed onto her children, who all display their gardens with pride. Many were lucky to enjoy her raisin pie, banana nut bread, bean popeye, and hernoodles were the hit at all family gatherings and meals served at her church. Thoughshe was a collector of hundreds of cookbooks, she rarely used a recipe as she knew how to make her favorites by heart. With a pinch of flour and lots of love, her family and friends never went hungry. Marcella loved her family, praying for them tirelessly as they went about their lives.
