Leo A. Metzger, born February 2, 1951 to Benny Lynn and Donagene Weiler Metzger passed away on April 17, 2025 due to a tragic farm accident.

Leo attended Kingston School and then Unioto High School. He was active in 4-H and band, and was also the illustrious and incredibly talented accompanist for the high school choir. He also accompanied the Ohio Youth Choir as they toured Europe.

After high school Leo attended OUC and ultimately OSU, where he received a degree in Ag Engineering. While at OSU, a shared love of music was instrumental in the chance meeting of Paula Macioce. One day in geology class, Paula noticed that Leo had the music for Rhapsody in Blue, and struck up a conversation about the music. Thus began the symphony of their life together, and they married in June of 1982.

Involved in the family farm throughout childhood, Leo and his brother Myron began a farming partnership in 1974. This partnership became Metzger Brothers Farms. Throughout his farming life, his inquisitive mind and creative engineering skills distinguished him as the go to person when people had questions or issues with their own equipment. He happily shared his knowledge and always made time for anyone who needed help.

“Uncle Leo” to many, he loved children and was a dynamic mentor, encouraging all to be the best version of themselves. Always selfless with his time, resources and his unique and diverse talents, his keen and genuine interest in others touched many hearts.

The creation of Lake Leo, a backyard sanctuary, embodies his spirit. It is a testament to his visionary outlook, his skill as an engineer, his love of nature, his desire to share blessings with others, and exemplifies his mantra: “The secret to living is giving.”

Predeceased by parents, Benny and Donagene Metzger, brother Lynn Metzger, mother and father-in-law Ivy and Pasquale Macioce, brother-in-law Michael Macioce. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Paula (Macioce) Metzger, brother Myron (Jerri), sister-in laws: Karen (Chris) Kaiser, Tammy Short (Shane), Tina (Matt) Nahodil, Angel (Brian) Quinn, Cammie (Jim) Ryan, brother-in-law Kevin Short, nieces and nephews: Andy (Bobbi) Metzger, Breanna (Kenny) Schwart, Ben, Sean (Angela) and Colin (Ashley) Metzger, Kimberly and Kevin Kaiser, Cameron Short, Jim and Jack Ryan, Ivy and Alec Quinn.
