James R. Moorehead, 77, of Circleville, Ohio, passed away on August 20, 2026. Known affectionately as "Jimmy" and "Bummy" to those who loved him, he was born on November 6, 1948, in Circleville, the son of the late James E. Moorehead and Beatrice Reid Moorehead. Jimmy graduated from Logan Elm High School in 1967, where he distinguished himself as an exceptional athlete, earning a remarkable sixteen varsity letters during his high school career. His competitive spirit and determination carried him beyond the playing fields and into service to his country. Jimmy enlisted in the United States Marines and served as a combat veteran in Vietnam. His bravery and dedication were recognized with numerous honors, including the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was also a member of the elite 400 Point Physical Fitness Club, where he not only achieved the distinction himself but served as a teacher and mentor to others. Following his service, Jimmy remained active in the veterans' community as a proud member of the VFW. Jimmy was a man who lived life fully and found joy in simple pleasures. He loved to hunt, fish, and search for mushrooms in the woods he knew so well. He was an avid poker player and never turned down a trip to the casino. His passion for sports extended to his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers and the Ohio State Buckeyes, teams he cheered on with unwavering loyalty. Above all else, Jimmy was a family man. He was deeply devoted to his wife, Kimberly, with whom he shared thirty-eight years of marriage. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and partnership, especially through his courageous battle with cancer, which he faced with remarkable dignity and strength until the very end. Jimmy was a kind, loving man whose warmth drew people to him, and he treasured every moment spent with family and friends. Through all of life's trials, Jimmy held firm to his faith, loving his Lord and Savior with all of his heart. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kristen Moorehead; and his brother, Mike Moorehead. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kimberly Moorehead of Circleville; mother in law Carol Tice, his sister, Becky Davis (Rock); his brothers, Jeff Moorehead (Stephanie) and Charlie Moorehead (Christy); sister in law Robin Schneider (Cecil); his nephews, Jason Davis, Kyle Davis (Kara), Christopher Moorehead (Rachel), Conner Moorehead , Woody Moorehead, and Jared Snyder (Linda); his niece, Jaymie Moorehead; and many other family members and friends whose lives he touched. Jimmy will be laid to rest on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Cemetery with Pastor Aaron Hines officiating. Per his request, there will be no calling hours. A public graveside service will be held at the cemetery. Wellman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
