John Tucker Magill, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, optometrist, musician, and lifelong Circleville resident, passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends. Born on February 17, 1947, John lived a life defined by service, dedication, humor, and deep connections to his community. A proud graduate of Circleville High School, Class of 1965, John went on to earn his degree in Optometry from The Ohio State University in 1972. He returned home to Circleville and built a distinguished career as an optometrist, owning and operating his downtown practice for 53 years. In doing so, he continued a family tradition established by his father, carrying forward the Magill legacy as a downtown Circleville business owner and trusted community figure. Throughout his career, generations of local families relied on John's medical expertise, round-the-clock accessibility, and genuine concern for their well-being. On April 25, 1980, John married the love of his life, Judith Ayers Magill, beginning a partnership that spanned 46 wonderful years. Together they built a loving family and shared countless adventures, joys, and memories. John was preceded in death by his parents, Erma Tucker Magill and John Magill, and by his brothers, Charles Magill and Roger Magill. The youngest of four siblings, he is survived by his wife, Judith Magill; his son, Christopher (Lindsay) Magill; his daughter, Emily Magill; his three beloved grandsons; his sister, Margaret Rhoads; sisters-in-law, Geri Magill and Nan Magill; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Outside of his professional life, John embraced adventure and music with equal enthusiasm. As a talented bass guitarist, he toured Ohio performing with the bands The Elegantes and We Are, creating lifelong friendships and memories through music. His stories were legendary and often reflected his adventurous spirit. During college, he and friends famously hitchhiked from California back to Ohio, an experience that became part of family lore for decades to come. John's life was filled with memorable moments and colorful stories. His family members never tired of hearing about the time he served as a bellboy for Johnny Cash and June Carter, and he attended the 1955 Rose Bowl but left at halftime because he missed his dog, Patch. These stories captured the essence of John: adventurous, independent, deeply loyal, and always guided by his heart. Whether caring for patients, performing music, sharing stories with friends, or spending time with family, John left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be remembered for his quick wit, steady presence, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and community.  His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the reputation he built, the music he shared, and the family he cherished above all else.
