Donald L DeLong, 89, of Laurelville passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family June 29, 2025. Don was preceded in death by parents Edgar and (Elsie)DeLong, brother Robert (Ruth)DeLong, sister Helen (Don)Bower. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Lorraine (Gifford)DeLong. children Lisa, (Greg)Justus, Jodi, (Rom)Hastings, Susan DeLong (Chrissy Schaefer), Jeff (Starla)DeLong, Shelley (Jim)Rhoads. Grandchildren Alaina (Zach)Wilson, Chelsey (Drew)Gable, Cody (Karissa)Hastings, Kayla (Alex)Bowers, Maggie (Hunter)Hopkins, Macie Rhoads (Jackson Kouns) Brittney (Mason)McCloy, Noah (Carmen) Bayes Great grandchildren, Brynlee, Elsie, Grady, Aubrey, Charlie, Adeline, Jett, Briar, Waylon, Tiger Special thanks to caregiver Angie Kennedy, and NATIONAL CHURCH residence home health and hospice. Don was a graduate of Saltcreek high school. He and Lorraine met in their late high school years while members of Grange and competing as a pair on the drill team. They have been a pair ever since. Don was a devoted farmer and carpenter, having built and remodeled several homes locally, including the home he built and raised his family in for 22 years. In 1996 He and Lorraine moved to the home he was born and raised in. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy, whether it was traveling, camping, or following his children and grandchildren in their sporting events. On Sunday July 6, 2025, a celebration of life will be held at the Adelphi Methodist Church, where Don and Lorraine were dedicated members. Time of gathering for family and friends will begin at 2 PM with the service following at 3 PM. at the Adelphi Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Good Works Incorporated 7857 Luhrig Rd, Athens, OH 45701 or Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
