Danny Phillip “noose” Artrip, 76, of Stoutsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on November 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. To many he was known as Danny, but to those who loved him most, he was simply and proudly “Papaw.” Danny was a man of strong values, firm rules, and an even stronger heart. He was a protector by nature, always standing up for his people and never hesitating to do what he believed was right. Though he could be tough, those closest to him knew the depth of his love, loyalty, and devotion. His family was his greatest pride and his truest legacy. He loved the open road and spent many years driving trucks, a career that suited his independent spirit. When he wasn’t on the road, you could find him working on houses or rebuilding old muscle cars—bringing life back to things with his hands, his skill, and his patience. Danny is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Brett) Chasteen, and his son, Gary (Shelly) Artrip; his granddaughters, Ashley (Corby) Willison, Danielle Wears, Kaylin Artrip, and Alea Artrip; and his cherished great-grandsons, Matthew Willison and Isaac Willison. He is also survived by his siblings, Arthur “Duke” Artrip and Patricia Tunstall; and his absolute best friend, Steve Lowery, who stood by him through life’s many seasons. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Patsy Lee Artrip; his parents, Walter and Gertrude Artrip; his brothers, Walter “Bud” Artrip, Levi “Jim” Artrip, William “Sunny” Artrip, and Wayne Artrip; and his sisters, Jean Lowery, Etta “Sis” Kyle, and Phyllis “Sue” Austin. Danny’s life was one of strength, hard work, loyalty, and unconditional love for his family. His lessons, his stories, his protection, and his presence will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will forever guide and watch over the family he loved so fiercely. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with burial to follow in Forest Cemetery.
