Charlene Coates

Charlene Mae Coates (Herron), age 89, of Circleville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, at the home of her granddaughter, Billie Hardy, in Lancaster, Ohio.

Charlene was born and raised in Circleville, Ohio. She dedicated many years of hard work to Lindsey’s Bakery in Circleville, where she eventually retired. Following her retirement, Charlene devoted herself fully to her family as a homemaker and caregiver roles she embraced with love and selflessness.

She had a passion for flower gardening and found joy in helping friends and family whenever she could. Charlene was a deeply loving and giving person who cherished her family above all else. She had a special place in her heart for babies and took great pride in caring for generations of loved ones. Her kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Charlene is survived by her daughter, Joyce (William) Young; granddaughters Anna Knight, Crystal (David) Keaton, and Billie (David) Hardy; and her great-grandchildren Charylann Knight, Cody Keaton, Chavin Knight, Joel Keaton, Allie Keaton, Kadyn Keaton, Tannah Knight, and Ibanez Hardy, along with many great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Beverly Tatman and brother Ted Herron.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Marie Herron (Helen Marie Herron) her husband, Clarence Coates; her son, Mark Coates; her brothers Tom Herron, Jerry Herron, Richard Herron, and Bernie Moates; and her grandsons Johnathon Knight and Trevur Keaton.

Visitation will be held at Wellman’s Funeral Home, 1455 North Court Street, Circleville, Ohio, on Thursday, January 15th, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Thursday at noon followed by burial at Heavenly Hills Cemetery on State Route 23 in Circleville, Ohio. Memorial contributions are suggested to the funeral home in Charlene’s name.
