Amelia Ruth Garner of Circleville, Ohio, passed away on November 25, 2025. [RG1] Amelia (Milly) was born February 1st, 1929 to Roy Emerson Lemley and Aubrey Wickensimer in Pickaway Township. She and her husband, Walter J. Garner, graduated from Circleville High School in the Class of 1946.
Walter and Amelia were married in June of 1948. Amelia worked at the First National Bank, while Walter was with The Savings Bank until he passed away in 2005.
Amelia was a lifetime member of The Methodist Church of Circleville, Ohio. She was active in Senior Service Scouts during World War II. As part of Troop #4, Milly was among the first volunteers at Berger Hospital, and continued to support the community through more volunteer projects during the war with Ruth Stout as her leader. She joined the American Red Cross, as a group was formed to further support Berger Hospital. She continued serving for more than 50 years, working in a variety of fields and endeavors alongside Etha May Wolford[RG2] .
Amelia was preceded in death by her husband, parents and stepfather, George Henry Riggin, son-in-law, Bert Cummins, sisters-in-law, Elsie Martin, Trudy, Waneta, Wilma and Mable Marie Garner, and brothers-in-law, Martin, Ronnie. Lawrence and Fred Garner and James Wooduff. She is survived[RG3] by her son, Barry, her daughter, Ruth, sister-in-law, Alma Woodard, and grandchildren, James Paul (Emily Ison), Cory, Megan Leslie (Kyle), Cody (Tabetha Culp[RG4] ), and Mackenzie Gillespie (Cody) and great grandchildren, Alex and Luke Garner, Parker and Bryn Leslie and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in Amelia’s name to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective PO Box 182883 Columbus, Ohio 43218-2883 or drop non-perishable food items at The Savings Bank 201 N Court St. Circleville.
Final arrangements are being made by Wellman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Jackson Township Cemetery
