Polly (Kerns) Thomas

Polly Jane Kerns Thomas, 93, lifelong resident of Circleville, Ohio passed from death to life eternal with God on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Genesis Healthcare Circleville where she had lived for fourteen years.  Born February 18, 1926 to her parents the late John and Blanch Kerns.  Polly Jane was a lifetime member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.  Music was always a big part of her life.  She was an accomplished pianist and sang in the church choir for many years.  She graduated from Circleville High School in the “Class of 44” and from Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.  Polly Jane’s work history included being a waitress at her family’s restaurant, teaching a third and fourth grade combination classes at the Stoutsville building in the Amanda Clearcreek school system, as well as teaching private piano lessons.  She is survived by her sons Richard L. (Jeanette) Thomas and Robert L. (Mary Beth) Thomas; grandsons John (Samantha) Thomas and Matthew (Ashley) Thomas; granddaughter Katie Thomas; great grandsons Aiden and Nicholas.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and dear friends.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, H. Leroy Thomas, who died in April of 1971 and her brother Clifford (Marjorie) Kerns. Services will be held at the Wellman Funeral Home in Circleville on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11.  Burial will be in Hallsville Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Heartland Hospice, 116 Morris Road Suite C, Circleville, Ohio 43113 or to the Activity Department of Genesis Healthcare, 1155 Atwater Avenue, Circleville, Ohio 43113.   The family thanks with gratitude the staff at Genesis Healthcare Circleville as well as Heartland Hospice for the special attention and care for our mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Online condolences can be made to www.wellmanfuneralhomes.com.
